Dodge Dart 1961 Description
1961 Dodge Dart Phoenix 4-door sedan
318 V-8, utomatic
No Reserve!!
Up for bid is a 1961 Dodge Phoenix. She's got the drive-line from a 1987 Chrysler 5th Avenue, hich is a 318 V-8, utomatic transmission, nd power disc brakes. She runs and drives well! I have owned her since May of last year, bought her from the man that built her, dding my own touches and enjoying her all summer and fall.
The body is fairly solid, he has mostly original paint (black) and it has aged to a dull finish. The red is fresh gloss added in the body spear and the 15-inch rims are powder coated. There is some rust on the lower front fenders at the rockers, round the trunk rim, nd some small bubbling on the front of the hood. I've owned several early 60s Mopars, nd this one is comparatively light on the body rust. The car is originally from Alabama, s near as I can tell. The floors have been replaced by the previous owner and were done well. The hood and doors are solid, he trunk has some small rust through on the underside near the hinges. All the glass is good, nd the windows roll up and down as they should. I bought a NEW set of Coker 2-1/2 wide whitewall radials (P215/75 R15) and I have put on '61 Plymouth dog dish hubcaps to give her some shine and still show off those red rims.
The engine runs really well. The dual exhaust has a great sound to it, nd it drives like a 1987. The transmission shifts fine, t appears to have a small (very minor) leak from the pan gasket. The power disc brakes stop really well and true. There are drums on the rear, gain from the 87 Chrysler. The builder had gotten the Chrysler and the Phoenix together as a package and built one car from the two. She's basically a '61 Phoenix body and interior sitting on a '87 Chrysler driveline. She runs great, as a few squeaks and quirks, ut a fun ride. I've put about 1,600 miles on her since May. There's a brand new battery for her, ounted in the trunk for that hot-rod look!
The interior is good, he seats have been recovered long ago and there are some splits on the driver side bottom cushion. I installed new bright red 80/20 Loop molded carpet from Stock Interiors (original style) and six new red lap seatbelts. I think the red/black combo looks spiffy! The headliner and door panels are original; they are a little tattered but still very presentable. There is no rear window shelf, o a little road ambiance drifts up! :) The dash was removed, ainted, nd re-wired by the previous owner and all gauges except the gas gauge work well. The speedometer/ odometer read about 1/3 of actual. The dash lights up really nice at night. There is no speaker cover on the dash, hese were originally plastic and notorious for disintegrating with sunlight exposure. The automatic is column mounted, nd the steering wheel is from a '66 Charger, ecause it looks cool!
Overall, he is a solid car that is a lot of fun to drive. She is by no means a show car, ut a great run-around cruiser that won't break the bank.
Be well prepared, hough, o answer lots of questions when you drive her, he top question being "What is it?!?"
If you have any questions, lease let me know. I want to be as honest as possible, o I may have made her sound worse than she is, ut I'd rather you be happy than surprised.
I am near Macon, eorgia, n the center of the state, ust off of Interstate 75. Georgia does not issue titles for cars older than 1964, o I will sell her on a bill of sale. She is registered and insured in my name, will forward a copy with the bill of sale.
I offer her at no reserve, o please be responsible and deliberate with your bid. I do reserve the right to end the auction early if needed. Thank you for looking, nd please let me know if you need further information.
