Dodge Aspen 1979 Description
Up for auction is our 1979 Dodge Aspen. Its a survivor, unrestored. It's been a daily driver for my son for the past two years. He just purchased his own car, so this old gal needs a new owner that will enjoy her. Car originally had a vinyl half top that had been removed. We removed all the glue, did a weekend warrior paint job over part of the car so it'd look better, but make no mistake, I'm not gonna brag on our work quality. The car had been hit in the rear at some point prior to our ownership. The only remaining evidence is the RR corner, we've included a photo. we had to secure and install tail lights that weren't busted...found and installed. We glued together the back namepiece, but the photos show it's missing a piece...didn't come with the car when we bought it. The front grill was also busted out, so we found and installed one from a donor car. New parts include belts, alternator, power brake booster & master cylinder, a couple new tires. We drove it home 100 miles when we bought it, and it's in better shape now than then. That said, it's still a 37 year old car, so its your choice if you want to drive it cross country. We have the left side trim piece missing from the photos, it requires the right clips to reinstall. The car starts, runs and drives nicely. It's the venerable slant six. Car does have air conditioning, but the engine bay is missing an idler pulley, so no belt is installed. Also, the control unit in the dash is broken, needs replaced. It's there, and the heater/defrost work, but the unit needs replaced for the air to work. Car does come with a nice aftermarket Stereo/CD player and pioneer speakers in the back. Car has the rear window defroster/fan and it works. Inside, the carpet is worn out, needs replaced. The vinyl seat has the usual survivor wear...drivers seat cracked up but still usable....the rest of the seats are good. Dash is cracked a bit, but not ugly. The headliner has been stapled up to keep it off our heads, but the nice part is that it's all there. You can take down the headliner board and have it professionally restored. We secured factory hubcaps for the car, they're nice.
There is rust here and there, but considering it's a survivor car, it's in pretty good shape! Nothing is rusted through, but there's some corners starting to bubble, shown in the pictures. Surprisingly, the floors are solid! There's one area of the frame that has rust damage, Right front, but it's repairable, and it hasn't affected daily use. The trunk has a couple rusty areas, but overall not bad.
In short, here's a car you can drive and enjoy while you fix up. This car is already rare, and here's a great resto candidate! Modest reserve, we're not giving the car away for free, but it won't take much to buy it. Happy to answer any additional questions. Happy bidding!
