It has been a half century since the last 1st generation C-10 left the manufacturing plant in Freemont Ca.
Very few survive in the world today.
Today the’60-'66 C/K series of pickupsare as much of a classic to truck guys as the Corvette is to muscle car fansand the '66 C-10, being the last year with the coolest factory options has achieved icon status.
If you’ve been out there shopping for a restored classic pickup, you’ve probably noticed that many have been chopped, shaved, lowered, modified andmolested far beyond theiroriginal, utilitarian purpose and beauty.
Thisexplains why demand is on the rise for"sensibly upgraded" and"faithfully restored"examples which are quickly being snapped up.
With the averagelifespan of a truck being about a dozen years and the attrition rate often accelerated by careless, second-hand owners, it'd be a nice surprise to find anexample of the species that, despite being 50-years-old, still shines, sparkles and closely resembles the way it looked the day it rolled off the showroom floor.
The most likely place to unearth such a rare gem would be Southern California, with its mild climate and large number of affluent, classic truck enthusiasts.
Such an amazing find is the highly restoredexample presented here!
The 1966 Chevrolet C10 shown here, VIN *C1546Z116626* was built in Freemont, CA has always lived a charmed life and hasnever left the Golden State.
Privately owned by a professional painter in Anaheim, CA, over the last several years he FULLY RECONDITIONEDthe truck andkeeps itmeticulouslymaintained andalways garaged.
Hence, a unique opportunity arises to obtain acoveted '66 C-10, one that has enjoyed a most beneficial climate, pampered beyond belief by a mature, conscientiousowner with the best upgrades money could buy.
Let's check out this dream find now, top to bottom, inside and out!
Exterior:
After 50-years on the road, the laser-straight body and undercarriagespeak volumes about the extensive restoration this C-10received and underscores its Southern California provenance.
Prior to refinish work, the interior was gutted; the bed set aside and all bumpers, windows and exterior trim were removed.
The original paint was stripped, body and seems were filled, smoothed and given 3 coats of rust preventative primer, block-sanded between coats.
Finally, 2-stageurethane (base coat, clear coat) in Blue & Whitewas applied. Interior, cab and bed were all painted separately.
The entire clear-coat was then color-sanded and buffed to ensure a show-quality finish.
With brand new triple-chrome-plated bumpers, front grill assembly, running lights and emblems, you’ll need sunglasses to see this beauty in the daylight.
A picture says a thousand words. With proper care, the superior quality of this work will last a lifetime.
Correct side mirrors and brightwork.
Chrome door handles, mirrors andtrim sparkle like new - because they ARE NEW!
Dent-free roof.
Panels are laser straight.
Note the seems along the upper and lower panels along the fleetside have been filled.
Many eclectic details truly make it come alive.
Let's check out the pickup bed!
"CHEVROLET" is painted on both the outside AND INSIDE the tailgate.
The maple wood bed was finished in 8 coats of marine varnish.
The filled seam adds perfection to this fleetside.
Aircraft-inspired “nacelles” graces the hood of the first generation Chevrolet C10.
Automotive art, indeed!
16" alloy wheels wear newertires.
While we’re down on one knee, let’s take a close look at the undercarriage.
Only after you realize how beat-up most of these trucks are, after over half-a-century of utilitarian use, mind you, you'll be able to fully appreciate this one!
Note the newer exhaust and suspension components.
After the powersteeringunit was added, a small crack developed on a section of the frame.
It wasprofessionallyrepaired and reinforced. (See detailed photos above and below)
Very important: pictures of the underneath: Everything is bone dry.
A dry climate, California truck is so much easier to live with!
Let's enter this vintage cabin.
The pickup features an upgraded, more modern bench seat with headrests.
Lots of fascinating interior details abound.
All gauges, speedometer, switches and heater work.
While still retaining its original charm, this interiorhas upgraded carpet andmatching floor mats and is far more comfortable and safer with the modern bench seat with headrestsand power steering.
Let’s have a peek under the hood.
The immaculate engine compartment features a 350 V8 coupled to an automatic transmission.
The 350 vee-eight engine always starts and purrs happily.
There's no smoke, or leaks worth mentioning.
Surprisingly, all the wiring is intact under the hood and under the dash and all lights and windshield wipers work.
Chevy’s mechanical longevity and simplicity is legendary, and this truck keeps the legend alive!
Drivablilty:
What a joy to pilot this classic C-10!
It's a time machine, really, putting you in touch with a long-forgotten world that's only alive today in a few old children's books and vintage black-and-white movies. Time seems to slow down a bit, and you can't help but smile with giddy excitement as you pass through the countryside, daydreaming of living in an old farmhouse with a barn, the blue pickup parked beside it.
The truck starts, runs, shifts, handles and stops just like you would expect from a low-mileage, vintage Chevy. The automatic transmission shifts smoothly through all the gears and the brakes stop the truck in a straight line without any hint of fading. There's no shimmying, no rattling, no unruly behavior of any kind. In fact, in its current condition, you could use it as a daily driver or take it cross country.
Imagine having a beloved, vintage C-10 in your driveway, a faithful friend, as spry and chipper as this one.
We would like to see this treasure, this time-warp truck belong to someone who appreciates the remarkable effort put into this fine restoration.
Spare parts--if needed--and classic car insurance are dirt cheap.
Servicing it is a snap.
Here's a very rare opportunity to purchase one of the coolest ’66 C-10s in existence.
It does everything you would expect from a true utility vehicle.
It looks gorgeous, and it's ready to be loved for the next 50 years.
Well preserved and ready to drive today: add this '66 to your family and you'll smile with delight every time you lay eyes on your prized possession!
