Chevrolet Chevelle 1967 Description
Some cars get all the breaks. This 1967 Chevelle SS396 enjoys being one of the most popular muscle cars of all time. It wears bright red paint. It's got a cackling 396 cubic inch big block. And someone's going to take it home for a fraction of the restoration costs. The cowl tag says this one wore code R Bolero Red from the factory, o bright red went on when the time came for a repaint and the look is extremely impressive. These early SS models have a no-nonsense look that's driven exclusively by performance, ot style, nd when putting this car back together, hey were careful to remember that. That meant an original hood with those cool chrome inserts, ot some generic cowl-induction unit. That meant getting the sheetmetal ultra-straight so it would show well without showing off, nd after the two-stage urethane paint went on, hey buffed it until the reflections were crystal clear. It shows some signs of age and use, ut nothing major and the overall look is still the kind of car that people stop and admire for a few extra moments at a car show. "Super Sport" badges and crossed flag emblems on the front fenders suggest that this sucker means business, nd the grille, umpers, nd blacked-out tail panel are all in very nice shape, eaning it doesn't have a single bad angle. It's really a nice-looking car.The interior is fairly stock, ut with a few upgrades that match the SS's "built for combat" attitude. Beautifully reupholstered black bucket seats look virtually unused and the carpets, oor panels, nd headliner are equally nice. A center console with built-in clock gives the Chevelle an upscale feel inside, nd the shifter for the automatic transmission has been cleverly disguised as a 4-speed, onoring this car's history (it was originally equipped with a 4-speed transmission). A tach strapped to the steering column is probably a smart addition and a set of Sunpro dials under the dash play a supporting role. There's an AM/FM stereo that makes for more entertaining cruising when you're not running hard and even the trunk is nicely finished with a reproduction mat and a full-sized spare tire. The only way you could get an SS in 1967 is with 396 cubes under the hood, nd this 1968-vintage block was rebuilt and detailed to look authentic under the hood. The decal on the air cleaner says 375 horsepower, ut the L78 wasn't available in '67, ut the build seemed to aim for an L34 spec. As a result, t has a rumbling cam, delbrock intake manifold, olley Street Avenger carburetor, nd HEI ignition, ll of which combine to make it a serious threat on the street. On the other hand, he nicely detailed Chevy Orange block, hrome big block valve covers, nd open-element air cleaner with reproduction decals give it a very original look. Power steering and brakes are a good idea with something this big and this fast, nd the sturdy TH350 3-speed automatic transmission doesn't even flinch when you nail the loud pedal. Long-tube headers and Flowmaster mufflers give it an awesome exhaust note and the clean underbody looks like it's had plenty of attention so it's ready to roll. A rugged 10-bolt rear hangs on original-style coil springs, o this Chevelle rides quite well, ven with those big 18-inch wheels and low-profile performance tires. It's not a trailer queen, ut the lucky guy or girl who buys this Chevelle is going to get a car that's built for fun and delivers in a big way.
