Chevrolet Corvette 1970 Description
1970 Corvette Stingray Convertible - 33739 Documented Miles - Collector OwnedThis beautiful 1970 Corvette Stingray is part of a 60+ car private collection in Austin Texas. If you're looking for a collector-quality Stingray I urge you to consider this car. You'll look long and hard before you'll find another with this combination of quality documentation and irresistible eye-appeal.This car was purchased new in May of 1970 from Taylor Chevrolet-Buick in Fulton KY and the car stayed with it's original owner for more than 15 years. In July of 1985 the car was sold to its second owner with 26200 miles. It then changed hands twice more before being acquired by the 5th owner in May of 1990 with 31407 miles. This owner a well-known businessman and automobile collector residing in Illinois would own the car for more than 20 years before I was able to acquire it in 2011.The mileage of the car is fully documented with an unbroken chain of sales documents verifying original mileage from the day it left its original owner. Additional mileage documentation includes an independent appraisal of the vehicle by American Sportscar Service Center Inc. of Highland Park IL. This appraisal is dated June 19th 1990 and verifies the mileage at that time as 31718.Further documentation that will be included with the car includes the original window sticker protecto-plate owner's manual and more than 200 service and parts receipts totaling over $25000.As shown on the original window sticker the car had an original retail price of $5621.80 reflecting factory options including the L46 engine 4-speed transmission and positraction rear axle. The car was also delivered with a factory hardtop that sadly is no longer with the car.The quality of this car simply cannot be overstated. Having spent the last 25 years of its life in private collections and having been driven less than 3000 miles during that time while being lavished with more than $25000 in services and restoration work this car will exceed your expectations.Following is more specific information:Mechanicals:I would drive this car across the country tomorrow without a worry and with no further preparation than checking the air in the tires and filling the tank with gas. The car starts stops and drives exactly as you would expect from a car of this quality. It pulls hard and revs smoothly and the 4-speed transmission shifts as it should with no grinding or other odd noises. The clutch is strong and the car brakes easily and in a straight line. There are no oil leaks or smoking from the engine. The car shows no signs of prior accident repair and is as solid its low mileage suggests. Everything in the car works as it should - lights switches wipers gauges everything. The car is numbers-matching.From 1990 though 2007 the collector who owned the car before me invested more than $25000 in restoring the car to the highest mechanical and cosmetic standards. Everything is documented with more than 200 receipts for parts and services and virtually no part of the car going untouched. As part of this comprehensive restoration the engine received a complete rebuild by the world-renowned specialists at Fast Times Motorworks in Morton Grove IL.While I have only driven this car a few hundred miles since I acquired it I can honestly say that this car is among the best-driving collector cars I've ever owned. Every time I take it out it exceeds my expectations. It will yours as well.Exterior:From every angle the car presents beautifully in its original color of Monza Red.While under the care of the original owner sometime prior to 1985 the color of the car was changed from its original red to metallic gray and it wore that gray paint for more than 10 years. Documentation that will convey with the car includes dated photos of the car in this color. As part of the comprehensive $25000+ restoration undertaken by the owner prior to myself in 1998 the car was treated to a body-off professional respray back to its original color at a cost of $10356.07 (and that was in 1998 dollars). The work was performed by Glenview Auto Body in Glenview IL.Today the paint on the car is still in outstanding condition. If you had to guess I'd bet my bottom dollar you'd guess the paint was 17 months old rather than 17 years. The finish is deep and glossy without damage and only the very slightest patina. There are no dents or door dings and the car looks more like a car that belongs in a museum than a car you'd see on the street. A close inspection reveals no more than a handful of tiny chips (maybe the size of a pin head) and the right rear quarter panel has an approximate 2-inch light scratch in the clear coat that didn't penetrate the base coat and could easily be touched up. I consider myself a harsh critic of paint work and I'm making efforts to disclose every single thing about this car. The truth is I'd rate the paint on this car a 9.9 out of 10 - it really is that pretty of a car.Besides the paint the bumpers trim glass lenses and emblems are all outstanding. When I bought the car it was riding on the original wheels and hubcaps. I wanted a more aggressive look and the comfort of a modern-profile tire so I added the rally wheels and Firestone Firehawk tires the car wears today. The original wheels/hubcaps are in excellent condition and will be included with the car if the new owner wants them. Please note that they will have to be shipped separately at additional expense.Because the car was in pristine condition when I acquired it there has been little work performed under my care. I did replace the lower aluminum rocker moldings as the original parts showed more wear than I wanted. When I did I sourced NOS parts (at significant expense) rather than install aftermarket parts.Interior:The interior of this Corvette is equal in quality to the mechanics and the exterior. The dash is free of cracks and shows no warping. The door panels are excellent and virtually flawless. The controls and various switches are beautiful. The seats are outstanding without tears or damage to the vinyl. As part of the work performed by the previous owner anything that needed attention was addressed and the final result is as beautiful as you'll find anywhere.I've taken the time to provide multiple close-up photos of the interior from almost every angle. Please examine them closely and pay attention to the details. Yes the big things like the dash seats and door panels all look excellent. But look even more closely at the small things. The interior details of this car are among the best I've ever seen and will exceed your expectations.I've included multiple high-resolution photos with this listing.
