BODYWORK/TRIM
During its thorough reboot, his solid old Chevy was entirely disassembled and completely striped of its dull, riginal pigment. Once that Grecian Green was removed, n incredibly straight fuselage was augmented with a bit of fresh sheetmetal. As that massaged sheetmetal featured better-than-factory alignment, rich coat of Tuxedo Black base was sealed in a glossy layer of clear. When that clear dried, Matador Red stripe was followed with many labor-intensive hours of sanding and buffing. And today, ne close look at our high-resolution pictures reveals a handsome payoff in the form of one of the coolest Chevrolet muscle cars on the planet!
For 1968, he freshly updated Chevelle sported a brand new look that featured tapered fenders, rounded beltline and a classic long hood/short deck profile. At the front of the car, broad, S-exclusive grille centers a prominent "SS396" emblem between correct T3s, bright "Chevelle" script and a factory-fresh bumper that's fitted with clear marker lamps. Behind that grille, n SS-exclusive hood props finned louvers in front of pristine glass, correct vinyl roof and straight stainless frames. Below that hood, ew door handles perfectly complement a fresh chrome mirror, ent-free rocker trim and classy, 396" branded marker lamps. And at the back of the car, n SS-exclusive valance centers a prominent "SS396" emblem between small taillights, second chrome bumper and clear reverse lamps.
ENGINE
Lift this coupe's double-domed hood and you'll find an era-correct 396 that's one of the most powerful and memorable engines Chevrolet ever created. Oxygen and fuel enter the block's combustion chambers through a highly polished air cleaner, ew stainless fluid lines and a big Holley carburetor. Below that carb, sea of brilliant Chevy Orange covers the block from its intake all the way to its stamped oil pan. At the back of that intake, traditional points distributor shoots spark through eight AC Delco Premium Wires. Below those wires, right chrome valve covers reflect professionally restored exhaust manifolds. And in front of those valve covers, Delco-topped battery rides next to a heavy-duty radiator that's cinched to GM-branded hoses via familiar tower clamps. Aesthetically, his road ready Chevelle's glossy exterior perfectly contrasts a smooth, atin Black engine bay that's complete with correct decals and appropriate grease marks. High quality extraneous bits, ike a fresh brake booster, rebuilt alternator and a tough Saginaw steering box, re present and accounted for. And if you think this description sounds good, ust wait 'til you hear the big mill run!

That tough transmission twists torque to a rebuilt GM 12-bolt that spins pleasant, ighway-friendly gears. Holding that stellar drivetrain in place is a fully restored suspension that features power-assisted drum brakes. Exhaust flows through aluminized pipes to aggressive Pypes Race Pro mufflers. Centered in those new components is a trio of fresh bench and bucket seats that are fitted with high quality covers and bright stainless hardware. Below those seats, ike-new carpet anchors a traditional Hurst shifter inside a factory-correct console. At the edges of that carpet, resh, ade-free side panels give the cockpit much needed visual pop. Above those panels, tight black headliner shows none of the drying or fading that's typical of vintage cars. In front of the driver, Chevrolet Rally Wheel laps a warp-free dash, S-specific trim and an old school roller tach. And behind the passengers, fully restored trunk sandwiches a full-size spare between a new mat, correct jack and fresh decklid decals.
