Chevrolet Corvette 1976 Description
1976 Corvette ‘T’ top rare low miles great history with a great underchassis and body, original engine with matching numbers ‘L48’ 350 cid, 4-speed, rare 22,896 miles, very pretty original paint called ‘Buckskin’ factory color, correct brown leather interior, factory air conditioning system,OWNER’S MANUAL, COPY OF ORIGINAL TITLE APPLICATION, LIST OF OWNERS, many other historic papers, power steering, power new fresh disc brakes, tilt/telescopic steering wheel, power windows, rear defrost, alarm, map light, factory AM/FM radio, fresh tune including all fluids, Valvoline 10/40 oil and filter, just great original superior underchassis, so very solid, no signs of any damage observed, see the LINK that breaks down the factory data tag, here is the original hydraulic lifter 350cid L48 engine, factory underrated at 180 horsepower, original exhaust system, has the period ‘Western’ wheels, all ‘numbers’ on the engine are correct of course, with engine block deck stamping #16S428590, block casting #3970010, Rochester carburetor, kept in the collection for many years of an older gentleman in Atlanta, lots of recent receipts follow the car with $6439 just in said file plus the new work by Fraser Dante, had original Delco Moraine when received, now has the brand new brakes just installed, a very pretty and great factory correct very solid body, only normal wear and tear with small chips and scratches are well-repaired and hard to see in photos, mostly original exhaust, just great frame, a very nice 1976 Driven Show Corvette ‘T’ top is now nicely just fully detailed,Chassis/frame: the underchassis and frame are most solid, no damage, just as factory and unmolested, no signs of any alteration through the years, just cleaned and scrubbed on the lift in the restoration shop at Fraser Dante, looks just amazing, all the welds, the bracing, the rear spare tire support are all like the factory and not damaged, like a time warp,
Brakes: showing how original and low miles, this had the very exceptional brakes, when received, this had the original Delco Moraine caliper disc brakes as received, now these cores are turned in, then just added are the 4 all new brake calipers with new stainless steel piston sleeves, the system now is set up with new pads and rubber brake lines are just installed, these are better for safety, this information confirms the history of the car, very cool, all the professional brake work, fluids and testing by our experts took over 8 hours plus parts, costing over $850 in our shop, A/C system just checked,
Engine: all ‘numbers’ on the engine are correct of course, shown with the 350cid engine block with the deck stamping #16S428590, block casting #3970010, this matching the VIN # of the engine, with the bore of 4.00†and the 3.48" stroke, this is a short stroke famous engine with hydraulic lifters that can be used and enjoyed, this has the Rochester 4v carburetor, all of these are shown with the ‘matching numbers’ on the engine and the components,
The horsepower on the L48 engine is at 180 with a very powerful torque rating of 270 ft/lbs, this is even stronger than the L82 that only has 255 ft/lbs, makes this L48 a very strong street performer, fresh Valvoline oil, filter and the spark plugs are new, note that the compression 156 to 164 lbs on a dry cold reading,
Exhaust: this still has the almost all original exhaust system, from the engine and exhaust manifolds back is the all original exhaust system with the factory catalytic converters, hard to find like this, has the newer splitter aluminized rear dual exhaust pipes installed through the years from said rear of the catalytic converter, again condition confirming all the history,
Transmission: the specs show that this is a RPO Muncie M20 4-speed with the wide ratio, has correct full factory shift linkage, this lower first gear gives pulling power with the torquey engine, confirmed original with the date code of 3.10.76, this is right before the car build date, full information of all the transmission numbers, has the vin # on the transmission, this is really exceptional,
History of the 1976 Corvette and this particular car: in this 1976 year, note that the convertible option was no longer available, thusly the ‘T’ top that is the same use and styling as the modern Corvette today, the “Astro Ventilation†was removed along with the ducts on the rear deck were also removed along with it, now this sported a new modified aggressive hood that directed air close to the front of the car at the, this eliminated a howl that could be heard in the cabin due to the old intake placement next to the front window, to enhance the car’s handling, a partial steel underbody replaced some fiberglass to improve driving with the chassis rigidity along with the shield the cabin from engine and exhaust heat,
Body/paint today: when this ‘time warp’ Corvette was brought to Fraser Dante by a senior collector who had owned for many years in Atlanta, the body and paint appear to be original and just terrific, now some 41 years after being built, there are no signs of any accidents that can be detected to the best of our knowledge, we have carefully cleaned and detailed this pretty car, there are minor and normal paint touch ups that have been done through the years, these are hard to see even from a few feet away, there is now a (LINK) that shows most of these minor areas, so small, there a few others that are even smaller than these, all of this seems to confirm low miles and such an original 1976 Corvette, hard to find like this at such a wonderful price,
Wheels and tires: this came to us with period Western finned wheels that came on such period GM cars, just seen and sold by this writer was a late ‘70s Camaro Z28 that had these same wheels, the tires today are B.F.Goodrich 225/75R/15 with very good tread, they are over 10 years old and are fine for limited driving for show, if one wants a newer tire, then we can discuss that point for the change,
Summary: very seldom does one find such an early Corvette with the great documentation, had the original brakes when received and the low miles, the full matching numbers and the great solid chassis are ready for investment and the show driving enjoyment for Summer 2017
A GREAT VALUE FOR ‘REAL’ 4-SPEED CORVETTE WITH HISTORY
