Chevrolet Bel Air 1962 Description
Continuing to thin the herd. I have decided to sell my very rare 1962 Bel Air "Bubble Top". Only 1206 ever produced. I try to keep up with the classic car market as best I can. This model is hard to find and highly sought after by those who want a classic car that very few other people own. You won't see a dozen of these at the car shows. It is not a Concours classic. It is a very rare, ependable, afe, omfortable and performance oriented vehicle that can be driven anywhere and averages 20MPG. It rides and drives very well.
The Bel Air is powered by a 5.7 LS1 all aluminum motor and a 4L60E transmission. Both are from the same donor 2004 GTO. The engine dyno's @ 350 HP. The rear diff is a 3:73 posi. The transmission and rear end are rebuilt. The engine was not rebuilt. However, t is super clean, as no leaks, o smoke and performs like new. It features power front disc brakes, ower steering, front stabilizer. All brakes, rake lines(front to back), prings (front to back), -arm bushings, all joints and essential steering components were replaced. The under carriage is very clean, ut the Bel Air is not a trailer Queen. It is driven.
*The body is in very good condition for its age. I found one rust place under the passenger side rocker where it meets the door. It can't be seen unless the lay down on the ground an look, ut it is there(see picture). The top has been repainted, olor sanded and buffed. Very nice. At the time same time, he front windshield and rear glass where removed to address any rust or potential rust problems in the future. Both where replaced with new rubber seals. The motor compartment(fire wall and inner fenders) were also freshly painted prior to the installation of the LS1 power plant. The lower body had been repainted at some point. It is shiny and presentable, ut not show quality. I believe the quality of the finish could be improved if color sanded and buffed. The stainless and chrome is good with very few dings, ut they are original. A new set of headlight bezels is included in the sale. I installed new correct side mirrors.
*The interior is immaculate. New factory style replacement seat covers, oor panels, ick panels, arpet, eadliner, ear deck panel and matching Bel Air floor mats. The unmolested dash and all interior trim was nicely repainted in the factory color. The speedometer and odometer operate through a programmable converter that mates the cable driven speedometer with the electronic 4L60E transmission. The factory fuel and heat gauge work very well. I have added an Autometer oil pressure and voltmeter. They match the factory gauges and the mounting bracket is painted to match the dash. The original radio is still there and looks nice. I don't know if it works because I have never tried to hook it up. The factory lighter/cell phone charger outlet is new. All blinkers, orn, ead lights, ED tail lights, nterior light, ash lights work great. Two speed electric wipers. The computer and computer wiring were very nicely installed. (No "wasps nest" converted factory wiring harness). The brain box and the USB receptacle are located under the passenger side seat.
*A new A/C compressor, ounting bracket, erpentine belt and pulley are ready for your choice of down line plumbing. The factory heater, efroster and vents work very well. We where going to install a period correct under dash unit(my preference). When we decided to let the Bel Air go to a new home, e thought it best that the new owner make that decision to suit their preference.
*The tires are BF GOODRICH 225/15 in front, 35/15 rear. New American 5-spoke wheels. If the new owner would rather have a different set of wheels and tires to suit there taste, will install a nice set of GM rally wheel with beauty rings, enter caps and near new tires to transport the Bel Air. You can use them with confidence until you find what you like and then sell them to help pay for your new wheels and tires. I will adjust the negotiated sale price accordingly.
Take the Bubble Top to the next level or leave it as it is. Either way, ou will rarely see another one. Its a better investment than the stock market. You get to enjoy your money instead of the folks on Wall street. Due to its limited production, t can only appreciate.
