This tidy 1968 Camaro is subtle, no doubt about that, but with a great-running small block V8 under the hood, an automatic transmission, and a few horsepower upgrades, it runs like it should be painted bright red.
Grotto Blue might work even better today than when it was new, giving this car a sporty look that's not too over-done. Obviously this car doesn't have to prove anything, so they kept it low-key, adding black stripes, a cowl-induction hood, and some SS badges, just to keep everyone guessing. The body itself is in good condition and doesn't show any of the usual maladies that affect lesser cars, and it appears that the quarter panels are fresh, so you know there won't be any nasty surprises waiting underneath. The light paint doesn't hide anything, so the gaps had to be tight and they clearly spent a bit of extra time to line everything up; it's not perfect, but better than you'd expect at this price. A cowl-induction hood was added, but with the light blue paint, it stays in the background, which is exactly right for this particular F-body. There's also good chrome, a nice grille, and a correct SS gas cap that does a little extra advertising.
Black upholstery is how it was outfitted at the factory, and today it wears reproduction seat covers that were probably done a few years ago. There are some signs of use, including some wear on the seat covers, but it's likely that the rear seat is original, so some evidence of age is an easy sin to forgive. A few of the modifications include the thick 3-spoke steering wheel, Hurst quarter-stick shifter, and auxiliary gauges under the dash, plus a replacement aftermarket stereo that could stand to be replaced if you're really doing to drive it. In back, you can pop the deck lid and have a look at a very original trunk pan, which is always reassuring on an old car like this.
A 305 cubic inch V8 lives under that cowl-induction hood, albeit nicely modified for street and show duty. The most obvious change is all the chrome dress-up, including the air cleaner and valve covers. But it's more than just flashy, because there's an Edelbrock carburetor, Holley intake manifold, and long-tube headers to bolster the torque curve. Braided stainless hose covers replicate a race-ready look and there's a giant aluminum radiator with an electric fan up front, so this car never gets fussy. A new Flowmaster exhaust system gives it just the right V8 cackle and the TH350 3-speed automatic transmission snaps off rifle-quick shifts that really make it bark. There's also a 10-bolt rear end that looks brand new, as does the gas tank. Proper Rally wheels complete the look with fat 215/65/15 front and 235/60/15 rear Uniroyal white-letter radials.
A handsome early Camaro that has all the important hardware already installed. Enjoy the notoriety that comes from being a little different, but it won't take long before people learn that this handsome blue F-body packs a punch. Call today!
