Chevrolet Chevelle 1968 Description
1968 Chevelle SS day 2 muscle car. Do not let pictures fool you this car has been completely restored other than the body and paint. The patina was left to represent an early 70's stock eliminator car with period correct components such as Cragar Super Trick Wheels Moroso mech tach Stewart Warner gages Winters shifter Lakewood ladder bars and even MrGasket "foot" pedals! Period correct window decals and class winner decals inside trunk lid. Body was bought out of a barn and was last inspected in 1994. It is a 136 car but as you can see in the barn picture it had all the SS items on it when found. It has some dents and minor rust. Rust is limited to bottom of front fenders and passenger quarter lip these areas would require patches. Rest of car is super solid. Floorboards and trunk are original and painted when doing frame off no patches. Dents in front passenger fender and rear valance is beat up and would replace if painting (looks like was rear ended at one time and tried to beat out). Again this gives the car the perfect look for a barn find race car from the early 70's. Engine is a 496 big block producing 650hp. Studded block with lunati sledgehammer crank eagle +.250 rods and JE/SRP 10.0:1pistons with Total Seal rings all balanced with ATI balancer. Moroso oil pump and B&B oil pan with windage screen. Heads are Merlin 345cc 2.30/1.88 stainless valves with KMotion 1.625 springs titanium retainers and ARP hardware. Cam is custom made .700 plus lift roller (specs included) with Crane roller rockers and stud girdle. Dart intake with Quickfuel 1050cfm 4150 carb hidden under L88 base air cleaner. Alum radiator and polished alum water pump does not get over 180 degrees in dead of summer (usually runs 165 with 165 thermostat). $9000+ in engine. Drivetrain has new built th400 trans from Mike Adams with Munsinger 10" 4500 stall convertor. Alum driveshaft connects to factory 12 bolt rear with 3.55 gears beefed up posi unit and Tom's Axles forged heavy duty axles. Chassis is ALL brand new. Body was taken off frame the floor boards were sanded and painted semi-gloss black. Frame and components were sand blasted primed and painted. All new front suspension with aluminum QA1 shocks on all 4 corners. Rear 4 link bottom bars are from Southside Machine while top are heavy duty adjustable. Lakewood ladder bars yellow as they were back in the day. Car has 4 wheel manual disc brakes from 98 Camaro with early 70's Corvette master cylinder and stainless lines. Brakes are excellent! New gas tank with new modified pickup for ½" line and #8 braided fuel line to Carter mechanical racing pump. Has 2” coated headers to 3” exhaust with “H” pipe and Magnaflow large turbo mufflers. Just installed tail pipes over housing and dump right behind tires. Car sounds wicked. Interior is 100% brand new. Factory seats recovered and all new chrome. New plastic dash assembly with every knob new. New door panels sill plates window handles carpet and headliner. Kenwood stereo with 4 speakers. I have spreadsheet and folder full of invoices totaling $26000. This does not include any labor. Car has less than 300 miles since built. Ran 10.92 @ 124mph in the quarter at ZMax dragway during Hot Rod Power Tour (before new larger drag radials and carb). Should run 10.60s with changes cooler weather and raising the starting line RPM (left at 2000). True 10 second ALL MOTOR pump gas street car (wouldn't drive across country but couple hundred miles no problem). Leave it with the patina and go make money grudge racing (add nitrous and run 9's) or pick your color paint and add new chrome for a $40000 car.Have attended Hot Rod Power Tour and Goodguys events since finished. Got many compliments on 70’s nostalgia NHRA AHRA or IHRA stocker look. Day two cars are the next trend in rat rods be one of the first! Come look at this car you will not be disappointed. We will put it on the lift and give you all the details!
Wanted to add that I built this car for myself as I had one in high school. I have too many cars is the only reason for sale. Call with questions 919-961-8505. Have numerous other pictures and invoice list for serious buyers.
