Chevrolet Suburban 1991 Description
This vehicle was once owned by the Red Hook Battalion 32 Fire Station in Brooklyn, NY. It was the Battalion Chief's car. It was sold April 8, 2002. 7 months after 9/11. I acquired it from it's second owner in May 2004. I actually wanted only the drive train from it as it only had a little over 100,000 miles on it. The drive train was a 6.2 Liter Diesel engine and 4 speed automatic. Two wheel drive. We used it for a couple of years and put about 10,000 miles on it. I removed the yellow stripping as it was always causing a lot of attention, but I've included photos of it before I removed them, but you could always see the imprints of the old markings of Red Hook, Battalion Chief and Brooklyn, NY. We conjectured that it may have been at 9/11 but didn't know for sure. In 2008, I took the engine and transmission out and a lot of the interior. I had reservation in doing so as I thought I might be destroying a piece of history that may be or should be preserved. Because of privacy laws and rules, I thought it difficult to find out more on the vehicle, however in September 2011, I came across an article from the New York Paper called the Gothamist in which a battalion Chief from Battalion 32 was interviewed. That interview may be viewed at: Gothamist.com/2011/09/09/911_firefighter_interview_transcribe.php I also was in touch through emails with members or former members of Battalion 32 and the feeling is, this may have been a spare vehicle on that dreadful day. At any rate whether it was used or not that day, it must have been in close proximity to the World Trade Center on that fateful day. The photos I have provided shows the vehicle in it's current state. I have most of the interior, including the dash instruments, heater, grill, headlight assemblies, all of which would be included in the sale. 3 tires match with good tread. The spare is currently on the fourth wheel. This would have to be considered a project for the buyer to reassemble it to it's original condition. The engine and transmission, both of which are in excellent shape. The radiator back to the end of transmission is complete, the engine coolant is still in the engine and the air conditioning which worked great, is all still in place and should work again just by reinstalling the engine/trans assembly. The freon was changed to 134 and has not been drained. The engine does not take oil and the transmission works just fine ( I was going to use both for a separate project, actually to be put into a 1986 C4 Corvette, as it would get great mileage and also a memorial/conversation piece to preserve it's origins with the connection to Battalion 32 and 9/11, but decided that the whole vehicle should go in the sale, although it would all have to be put back together) The body is in good condition except a patch of rust behind the left rear wheel (I have a new quarter panel that will fix this area which will be included) and minor spots in a couple of other places, but over all good body structure. The front right side door has a dent in it. Hood has a couple of holes in it as there is the siren was placed. The roof has a round hole cut into it approximately 10 inches diameter. All the glass is good. All seven members of Ladder 101, Battalion 32 were killed that dreadful day. This Battalion Chief's car, may have been a spare and may or may not have been used that day, but it was owned by them. I didn't want to simply sell this for recyclable scrap metal and reusable parts, as I thought it best to offer it up for sale to see if someone would like to restore it as a memorial to Battalion 32 members who lost their lives and the tragic events of 9/11. I can deliver for a negotiated amount after the sale. Also this vehicle is for sale locally, so we reserve the right to end the listing at any time.
