Chevrolet Suburban 1968 Description
I have owned the "Beast" for 7 years now. It was supposed to be my fiancee and I's travel the country vehicle. He was supposed to do all the mechanical work. Tragically he died a couple of days after we got it to his house to work on. That was 6 years ago and I have been trying to restore her ever since. She is a 1968 Chevrolet Suburban K20. That means a 3/4 ton 4 wheel drive. She is a four on the floor. Had a PTO drive that was removed before I bought her. She is a 3 door clamshell. The story goes that she came form California (which I can prove) and was driven here in NH for awhile. Luckily, someone had the foresight to oil undercoat her. Anyways she was then barned for 28 years (which I cannot prove) and about a year after being pulled from the barn, I bought her.
She originally had a 292 straight 6 in her for power but the engine was toast, so I bought a 350 V-8 to power her. The 350 was completely rebuilt top to bottom. Has flat head pistons in her for better compression. I have receipts for most of the parts. The odometer now reads 00000.3 since I had to replace the speedometer all together as the needle broke off the one time I got to drive her. The previous odometer read around 43k miles, but not sure if that was original miles or the roll over miles.
She has 16 inch rims with 10-ply tires on her that have maybe 20 miles on the tread. Have 6 rims total as I was trying to find a matching set of 5, unfortunately I have three and three.
Floor pans and rockers need to be replaced in the front. I have them and they go with the vehicle. She has a new Edelbrock 600cfm manual choke carb on her. Also, have a Holley 650cfm electric choke carb. New battery. New radiator. Really too many new parts on her to list. Also, have a bunch of new parts that still need to be installed. Including the rest of the exhaust.
I am trying to remember to list everything I can think of but like I said have put a lot into her, including new brakes all around.
Front bench seat is removed to make it easier to replace the floor pans. Still ave the seat and 2 mismatched captain's chairs and their mounting hardware that go with her. So you have a choice of seating.
If you have questions ask. I just do not have the Heart, time or money to keep working on her. please someone give her a great home.
