Chevrolet Chevelle 1972 Description
This listing is for a 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle Super Sport.
Please read the complete listing as I attempt to accurately describe this vehicle. Also, ook closely at the images attached.
I will do my best to accurately represent this car. If you have questions, lease email me the questions or email me your phone number and your name and I will call you. I want you to know what you may be purchasing.
First, here is no title as the State of Georgia does not require titles on vehicles of this age. I will give you a bill of sale. It can even be notarized if you need for it to be. If no title is a problem, ou should look for another vehicle.
I believe this SS is a survivor - an original L65 (350 2bbl) – M40 (TH400) 10 bolt car. It originated at the Arlington, exas final assembly plant in April 1972. (see image of decoded trim tag.)
The original color was antique white exterior (color code 11) with a medium green vinyl top (see trim tag “G”) and antique dark green interior (713). This SS has bench seats (A52) and an automatic shift on the column. I do not have a build sheet, s they were somewhat rare on Arlington built cars. If this car came with the stripes, hey would have been black (on the hood and deck.) Although the hood and deck stripes were standard on SS, ome were ordered with “stripe delete.”
I have spotted several interesting options on this car along with the usual SS equipment. This SS has a tilt steering column, enter armrest in the front bench and the desirable NK4 sport steering wheel.
Other Options and Standard SS equipment are tinted glass, emote RH & manual LH sport rear views mirrors, 41 suspension with boxed rear lower control arms and rear sway bar, at front sway bar 1.125”, eluxe seat belts with the brushed finished buckles, love box illumination, omed hood, ood pins, ront disc brakes, ower steering, nd perhaps some other options I have not noticed.
This car currently is equipped with a small block which I believe is a 350 and could possibly be the correct one original to the car; however, t has a 4 bbl carburetor now. There is a Turbo-hydramatic 400 transmission in the car which is probably original to the car as many of the L65 automatic trans cars came with the M40 (TH400.) No reason for this heavy duty trans in this car…they just came that way. Finally, believe the 10 bolt rear is original. I believe the only SS cars in 1972 with the 10 bolt rear end were the ones equipped with option L65 (350-2 bbl.)

Now, aving listed the car as it was built, will do my best to describe its present condition.
Engine runs fairly well. No smoke or strange noises. Some evidence of oil leakage, erhaps from the oil pan. Starts well, ual exhaust quiet.
Transmission condition is unknown. However, he transmission does work and car moves well. I have not been on the highway with it but car was driven daily by previous owner and it was driven several interstate miles from his home to the location where I purchased it. He drove it onto the trailer for me. I drove it off the trailer and did some yard driving and the brakes work.
All four 15 x 7 SS wheels are on the car with two trim rings in the trunk. One spare wheel is in the trunk.
Miscellaneous body and interior moldings are in the trunk. See images.
The glasses are tinted and I have seen no cracks. However, he windshield has been scratched by wiper blades.
One front sway bar bracket is loose or missing on the RH side. Sway bar is hanging down some and needs to be secured. I will try to remedy this before it leaves for the new owner. Notice…not fix it, ut secure it for transportation for the next owner to fix. Easy fix if you have time.
RH door exterior handle is broken and door will not open from the outside.
LH door will not open from the inside. Window has to be let down to actuate outside door handle. Both doors do open and close.
Dash pad is cracked. Dash panel itself has normal wear and aftermarket radio. I do not believe it was butchered to install the cheap aftermarket radio - which is junk.
The seats and interior show lots of wear, ut I believe are original to the car. No headliner, ut the bows are there.
Many underhood AC components are missing. All components are easy to find locally or on Ebay.
Exterior – Needs attention. To bring this car back to its original beautiful condition, t will need quarters and fenders and hood hinges and bumpers. The top has a couple of places that can be fixed easily where the vinyl top held moisture. The trunk pan can be fixed and will not need a new panel (in my opinion – see images.) Some rust around the glasses- normal Chevelle vinyl top problems.
The front floor pan on the driver’s side needs replacing. The underside of the car, ther than what has been stated above, ooks very good for a 43 year old vehicle with only the driver’s floor in bad condition. Actually, think what saved the underside of this car is that it was driven daily and the air flow eliminated moisture build up. Regular driving helps reduce rust scale.
If you are thinking about a restoration project, his is a great candidate. You can drive it while you restore it.
