This Corvette looks great. runs well. and is an awesome driver. Everything on the car works including the a/c. vacuum for the headlights. power antenna. and even the clock. which are all very common problems on this era Corvette. The car is totally solid with no rust issues and straight lines. I have personally put some miles on this Corvette and during that time it was completely reliable and a pleasure to drive. It is loaded with desirable options such as CC1 Glass T-Tops. N90 aluminum wheels. a/c. power brakes. etc. The previous owner told us that he was the second owner of the car. He purchased the car from Joseph Chevrolet in Cincinnati. OH in 2013 and said he was told by the dealership that the original owner had traded the car in on a new Corvette. The Classic White over Oyster Cloth color combination is handsome and elegant on the late C3 Corvettes. It is also the correct and original color scheme as verified by the codes on the trim tag. which is pictured below. This is an excellent opportunity to own a classic Corvette that is ready to be used and enjoyed at an unbeatable value. One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price in years to come. The low original mileage is verified not only by the condition of the car. but also the clear Ohio title. pictured below. showing the mileage as "Actual. " Please peruse all of the photos. list of numbers. video. and information below to get a true sense of how nice and clean this Corvette really is. As a side note. this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle. We hand pick each car after careful inspection. Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their car to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did. We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected. Please take the time to scrutinize each picture. We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase. If you have a question about the Corvette. just give us a call. model description The Corvette evolution continues" announced the slogan from the 1979 Corvette sales catalog. The L48 engine received the dual-snorkel air intake introduced in 1978 for the optional L82 V-8. which added 10 horsepower. All Corvettes in 1979 now had the high-back bucket seats introduced on the 1978 limited-edition Indianapolis 500 Pace Car. A higher pivot point allowed the seat backrest fold more flat and level with the luggage area floor. which drastically improved access to the rear storage area. numbers Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts. but all of the dates are also chronologically correct. This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order. For example. all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled. Most of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly. item number description* VIN 1Z8789S442415 The first digit. "1. quot; indicated the Chevrolet division of GM. The "Z" is the series. Corvette. The "87" is the body style. 2-door sport coupe. The fifth digit is the engine. 8. correct for an L48 car. The sixth digit. "9. quot; indicates the model year. 1979. The "S" is the plant where the car was produced. St. Louis. The last five digits are a sequence number so this is the 44. 15th Corvette made for 1979. Body Build Date L05 "L" corresponds to August. and "05" is the fifth day of the month meaning this Corvette's body build date is July 5. 1979. Engine Code V0621 "V" means the engine was build in the Flint. MI plant. The "06" is the sixth month of year and the "21" is the twenty-first day of the month meaning the engine was assembled on June 21. 1979. This is correct as it precedes the build date of the car. Suffix Code ZAH This means the motor was intended for an L48 Corvette with an automatic transmission. which is correct for this car. Engine VIN Stamping 442415 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN. 442415. are stamped on the engine pad and pictured below meaning this engine is original to this car. Engine Block Casting Number 14016379 The engine block has the correct 14016379 casting number. This casting number is right for a late build 1979 like this car. Engine Block Casting Date F 13 9 "F" is June. "13" is the thirteenth day of the month. and "9" is the last digit of the calendar year so the engine block was cast on June 13. 979. Distributor 1103302 The distributor is original and correct for an L48 that has a/c and automatic transmission with a 1103302 stamping. Please note that this distributor was only used on Corvettes with the ZAH suffix code. which this car has. Distributor Date Code 9 F 13 The "9" is the last digit of the calendar year. the "F" denotes June. and "13" is the thirteenth day of the month meaning the distributor was made on June 13. 1979. This is correct as it predates the assembly date of the engine. Intake Manifold Casting Number 14007376 The intake manifold has the correct 14007376 casting number. Intake Manifold Casting Date F 7 9 "F" is June. "7" is the seventh day of the month. and "9" is the last digit of the calendar year so the intake manifold was cast on June 7. 1979. Carburetor Main Body 17059216 The original carburetor has the correct stamping for a 1979 L48 Corvette with an automatic transmission and a/c. The fourth digit. "5. quot; means the carb was built in the 1976 - 1979 production run. The fifth digit. "9. quot; means it was built for the 1979 model year. The six digit. "2. quot; indicates that it is a 4BBL carb. The seventh digit. "1. quot; means is was built for the Chevrolet division of GM. The last digit. "6. quot; means it was intended for use in an automatic transmission car such as this. Carburetor Date Code 1809 The firth three digits. "180. quot; indicate the 180th day of the year. The last digit. "9. quot; is the year in which the carburetor was produced. 1979. So this carburetor was stamped on June 29. 1979. Transmission Stamping Y9T 05D The "Y" means the transmission as build in the Toledo. OH plant. The "9" is the year. 1979. The "T" is the twelve month of the year and the "05" is the fifth day of the month. The "D" is the shift in which the transmission was made. This would mean the transmission was made during the day shift in Toledo. OH on December 05. 1979. Windshield CJ "C" is November and "J" is 1978 so this window is original. made in November of 1978. This is correct as it predates the build date of the car. Passenger Window IA "I" is June and "A" is 1979 so this window is original. made in June of 1979. This is correct as it predates the build date of the car. Rear Window IA "I" is June and "A" is 1979 so this window is original. made in June of 1979. This is correct as it predates the build date of the car. *Most information obtained from Alan A. Colvin's Corvette by the Numbers and Mike Antonick's Corvette Black Book. condition Exterior The Classic White exterior is in excellent driver condition. As one can see in the photos. the paint has a great gloss. smooth finish. and nice shine. Both doors open and shut easily and with little effort. The N90 aluminum wheels are in great shape with a brilliant finish and no curb rash. The tires appear to have about 95% tread left and are correctly sized 255/60R15. There are no major imperfections that have been intentionally excluded from the photos. There are some faint blemishes that were too tiny to be picked up by the camera. but nothing that is really noticeable from about five feet away. There is a blemish on the very tip of the nose of the car. which is very common on this era C3. and also some light crazing around the car; there are photos of both below. but it was very hard to capture with the camera. As one can see in the many photos of the underside of the car. this Corvette has NO RUST ISSUES. The frame is totally solid with no rust in front of the rear tire and I have seen no evidence of corrosion around the windshield. which are the two most notorious spots for rust on a C3 Corvette. The car looks just as good in person as it does in the photos. Interior The Oyster interior in this Corvette is in spectacular original condition. The seats look great with no excessive wear. There are just some small signs of use in the typical area where the driver gets in and out. There is a specific photo of the area below to show how unnoticeable this is. The cloth interiors in this era Corvette are vey rare and please note that these are the original seats and. not some cheap aftermarket covers or replacements. Actually. the cloth seats on these Corvettes are not available in the aftermarket so it is especially important that these original seats are in such good shape. The carpet is in excellent original condition with no major stains or holes. This includes the rear carpet with is often neglected. The console and dash are in great condition with no cracks or sun damage. The door panels are in good shape overall and. unlike many Corvettes of this age. they fit well and tight to the door. The door pulls are solid and intact. The Kenwood stereo sounds good and most importantly the dash is original and uncut for the installation. occasionally the radio will go out after driving for long periods of time. The gauge faces are clean and crisp and the gauge lenses are nice and clear. The jack and jack handle are still present and stowed correctly behind the passenger seat. pictured below showing the original stickers on the compartment lid. The original spare is still with the car and still has the nubs on it. The woodgrain on the dash is a tasteful addition and looks goods. The original T-Top storage bags are also included with the car and pictured below. This Corvette has never been smoked in. there are no burns marks and no aroma of cigarettes. Corvette interiors are not known to wear well. especially a light color like Oyster and with cloth. and the excellent condition of this amazingly original interior is a huge testament to the meticulous care this car has received throughout its life. Even very detailed items that are almost always broken or shabby are not on this car; details such the finger pulls for the rear storage compartment and the fit of the center gauge cluster with the shifter console and down to the parking brake console. The interior looks just as good in person as it does in the photos. Mechanical This Corvette seems to be in great mechanical condition. The car starts right away every time and runs well. It drives terrifically and it is tight on the road and at highway speeds. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph. braking to stoplight. and going through some curves. Please note that there are no vibrations and the car performs quite well overall. There is no blue smoke when starting or driving the car. The transmission shifts smoothly throughout the power band. This Corvette has plenty of power and is quite fast. Also. the engine compartment is beautifully clean and detailed as one can see in the photos. All of the upper and lower ignition shielding is still on the car as is the catalytic converter. The horn works as do all the exterior lights. wipers. power windows. all gauges. the blower on all speeds. power locks. and even the clock. The a/c works and one can observe the compressor engaging properly in the video below. The entire vacuum system for the headlights works correctly with no effort or binding in the mechanism. Also. the headlights go up correctly with either the headlight switch or vacuum override switch. Their complete operation from both switches can be observed in the video below. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car. especially with the T-tops out on a beautiful day. The car runs and drives just as great as it looks. Overall Condition Overall. this 1979 Corvette is in great driver condition. Numbers matching is extremely important in Corvette pricing. especially with low mileage examples like this car. The originality. the great condition. and the great extent to which the numbers match make this car especially important and hard to duplicate. This Corvette always gets a ton of attention driving down the road. It is apparent that the vehicle has been well taken care of by its previous owners. The prices of C3 Corvettes have increased considerably over the past several years. They are secure and wise investments for a collector. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.
