Chevrolet Corvair 1965 Description
YENKO STINGERTHIS IS AN EXCELLENT - RARE - LISTED YENKO STINGER. The car for sale is YS303 and is one of the most noticed and desired cars by car lovers at all car events.
Engine: Bored .020 OS. Standard factory nitrided crank. Heads have been modified for Zenith 40TIN triple throat carbs. Ports have been match ported and smoothed. Heads have been flycut to approximately 9.8 compression ratio. Combustion chambers have been matched and polished. Rods and pistons have been match weighted and rods have been polished. High flow oil pump. Remote oil cooler with thermostat plumbed with Airquip hose to oil filter adapter of my design. Isky 280 degree cam. Equal length headers with Turbo mufflers. Electric fuel pump. Special air filter unit fabricated with Corsa unit to Porsche air boxes. This engine compression checks at 200psi, ut runs fine on premium pump gas! Transaxle: Upgraded 66 Saganaw trans with diff. Diff has been modified to 4 spiders with side yoke play reduced to less than .002. Gear ratio is 3.27 open. Diff has been drilled to accommodate dip stick. Engine modifications necessitated an upgrade to a 1500 pound clutch. It has a Yenko Stinger lightened flywheel. Trans recently removed and fully rebuilt. Brakes: Aluminum front drums. Standard rear drums. Kevlar shoes. Braided flex lines. Castrol LMA brake fluid. Interior: Upgraded steering column with Borgeison U-joints. Electric Oil Pressure and Oil Temp gauges. Oil temp has engine out and oil cooler out switch for cooler efficiency checking. Five point belts on both seats. Roll bar with removable race brace for rear access. Lightweight rubber floor throughout. Halogen headlights with a multifunction relay. Suspension: Heim jointed rear lower bars. Convertible springs. Gas shocks. Quick steering arms. All ball joints and bushings have been replaced and inspected. Modifications necessitated alignment specs to be set at -1/2 degrees camber at front and rear with ~1/16 inch toe-in front and rear. Wheels and Tires: 7 X 13” Tartana correct road/race wheels. Sumitomo 205/60 X 13 tires. I prefer 25psi front and 32psi rear pressures. Extras: Spare heads similarly modified including seats, uides, prings, alves, achining and welding. Extra specialty gaskets and carb rebuild kits included, will include a pair of 205/60 X 13 Goodyear Gatorback tires.Extra Comments: It has ~55,000 miles since original restoration in 1987. It has been meticulously maintained since then. This car has been on 8 different race tracks at speed over the years documented with a personal race log, ut it is very tractable on the street. gets approximately 22-23 mpg on the road. This car is painted in American racing colors: Chevy Provincial white with blue stripes, he paint is in excellent condition with just a few imperfections, ostly minor small imperfections on the white wheels. (The SCCA and other racing organization (ACCUS namely) had annotated the national racing colors for the United States as white/blue stripes. All racing cars from the U.S. were painted that color to differentiate them from other countries (which all had their assigned colors). The rules were changed in 1967 and any car from any country could use whatever color they desired)This Yenko's six-cylinder engine uses four carburetors delivering about 200 hp, ated to a four-speed manual transmission. All the chrome, oth inside and out, as been pulled, olished and replaced to show the original specs. The interior looks great, he roll bar and racing badges are amazing and add to the excitement of this car.
The vehicle, hassis No. YS303 is listed in the Yenko Stinger registry. It's one of the few rare-certified CS cars to exist today.
It has 53,709 miles on the odometer. everything works, ncluding the horn, ll of the electrical and the radio, hich is an aftermarket radio an original radio could be refitted if desired.
Yenko Stinger YS303 Is one of the most documented CS Yenko Stingers, riginally owned by J. Bristow and later acquired by Al Huston who spent over 25 years loving this beautiful CS Stage 1 Yeanko Stinger. Al has been credited with owning and maintaining one of the nicest Yenko's in existence, during Al's ownership YS303 became one of the most well known Stingers YS303 was often seen at Corvair and other various classic sports car events, uch is noted in his log book. This amazing car is now for sale.
The car is road/race set up. It features competition prepared cylinder heads topped by Zenith 40TIN Triple Throat Carbs, enko Stinger lightened flywheel with 1500 pound pressure plate and Kevlar disc, 9.8 compression ratio. Four spider diff with minimal end yoke play and 3.27 gears. Heim jointed lower bars. Stainless brake flex lines with dual line master cylinder. Aluminum drums in front. Quick steering arms. Five point seat belts. 13X7” steels wheel with 205-60X13 Sumitomos. Auxiliary oil cooler with custom spin-on filter adapter. Custom air cleaner unit housing is modified to draw from the fresh air plenum behind the rear window instead of through stock rear-facing snorkels and Saginaw transmission.
For the most part Yenko cars had 3:55 gears. Some were built with 3:89 gears. YS 303 has the tallest ratio (3.27) to make it more conducive to drive as a road car. Upgraded Saginaw gear box. The motor in Y/S 303 has an Isky 280 degree cam. It has steel tube equal length primary tube headers. The diff does not have a posi set-up as it isn't necessary unless it is being set up for full competition since it has a rear weight bias which would negate a loss of traction to an inside rear wheel. That set up would be more desirable in a more weight balanced car such as a front engine rear wheel drive.
This car sale includes spare parts include carb rebuild kits, askets, pair 205-60X15 Goodyear Gatorbacks, pare heads similarly set-up for triple throats.
Al Houston helped update the listing with the pertinent information. Thanks Al!
