Chevrolet Corvette 1971 Description
1971 corvette convertible 454 4 speed nom. Its a real 454 car. This car has been reported to have only original 12,000 on it. Box A title shows 12,000 miles. I have no documentation of that but here is the story behind it.I purchased it from the 2nd owner here in Arizona. In 1973 the original owner had several cars in a warehouse in Illinois. In a winter storm, ome of the cars were damaged, his being one of them. I don't know the amount of the damage personally i was told it was not extensive.
The cars were removed and placed in another location but not repaired. In 1990, he 2nd owner traded some work in return for the corvette. The car then sat until 2011 when the 2nd owner gave the car to his son. I verified the story with the son as well,he is still in Illinois. The car started to be repaired in 2013.The damage to the car was to the rear spoiler area and front fender. It was fixed and repainted by his uncle that owns a body shop and when finished was then shipped to Arizona. The son was going thru a bad divorce and didn't want to sell the car in Illinois.
What makes me think it could be true is its all original and there is little wear throughout. Carpet is great, brake pedals not worn, door panels show minor use, under side of car is clean and original, brake rotors still original. All gauges, arning lights, and even the clock works!Head lights go up and down great. I don't believe that the car was registered from 1973 to 2016 but have not checked with Illinois. I going off of the statements from the sellers 80 year father that lives here, e sold me the car. Still no documentation so cant verify.
The paint on the car is driver quality. Should have been blocked out some more in my opinion but would be an easy repaint.I took it to a local Corvette repair shop and had some things repaired. The steering ram cylinder was leaking at the seal so i replaced that, he hoses and the control valve. Pan gasket has slight drip nothing major. Frame has never had rust and underside is clean.
Starts up fine, trans shift like new, o noises, plenty of power. Some weather stripping needs replaced, chrome is ok, ome trim rings have curb rash, basic stuff for a 45 year old car.
Vent controls stiff but that's expected i guess. Windshield has crack. Aftermarket aluminum radiator with a dual fan was added at some point. Still has clutch drive fan.
I have tried to describe the car the best i can. I'm not a corvette guy so don't know these well. I own chevelles. Its driver quality and has not been restored other than some body work. Its all there and would be a really nice project to do or you can drive as is. These cars are going for $50-$65K done
There were14,680 hard tops and 7121 convertibles made in 1971. 5097 had 454's. 2387 had 4 speeds.. 1591 were steel cities grey. So how many were convertible, 54,4 speed in grey. Not many! My reserve is reasonable as i know this car will need some work to take it to the next level.
I was considering keeping this car and found an original rebuilt date coded 1971 cph stamped corvette motor for it if interested. Will help with shipping car.
