Chevrolet Bel Air/150/210 1955 Description
There's an argument to be made that the 1955 Chevrolet is the ultimate hobby car. It can be anything you want it to be from bone stock show piece to this handsome functional and beautifully built resto-mod. Fitted with all the modern conveniences it is an awesome blend of that great '50s look and today's functionality.Bright red certainly grabs your attention and it's fortunate that the bodywork underneath is nicely done because there are going to be a lot of eyeballs on this 210. Built 12 years ago it's holding up well despite two owners having fun behind the wheel and if you wanted to take it up a notch or two a professional cut and buff would make the red really pop once again. Nothing has been modified shaved or chopped because after all what could you possibly do to make this car look better? Instead they seemed to realize that the factory got it right and focused on making it sparkle. That means all the trim was pulled for the paint job buffed and re-chromed then carefully reinstalled so it all lines up just right. The simplicity of the '55 works especially well offering a great contrast between the car's modern performance and old-fashioned look and things like the jet-inspired hood ornament and angular taillights are details we'll never see again on a production car.The interior focuses on comfort rather than all-out style and when you're cruising you'll appreciate it even more. The cloth upholstery was done when the car was built and it still looks great with no splits tears or other issues even in high-traffic areas like the driver's seat. There's a bit of discoloration in the usual spots but even that might clean up without a lot of effort. Dark carpets work well to anchor the interior while the light gray upholstery keeps it bright. A color-matched dashboard and steering column bring a bit of color inside and the new billet inserts on the dash sparkle the way they might have in 1955. The original gauges are gone replaced by a cool custom setup from Classic Instruments that includes all the major functions. You'll also be pleased to discover that they've thoughtfully added A/C with discreet vents under the dash as well as an AM/FM stereo radio with remote CD changer in the trunk. And that trunk is neatly detailed with a reproduction rubber mat and plenty of bright red paint. The engine is a 350 cubic inch crate motor that makes plenty of power to make the lightweight car a lot of fun to drive. Augmented by a Holley 4-barrel carburetor on an Edelbrock intake manifold it has right-now throttle response that makes it feel agile around town. Plenty of chrome and polished aluminum make the engine bay look right when you open the hood at a show and with a big aluminum radiator up front it never threatens to get hot even on the warmest days. A dual master cylinder manages the power front disc brakes and power steering has been added to make it easy for anyone to handle. Long-tube headers feed a burbling 2.5-inch exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers and the underside while not detailed for show is just perfect for a car that's going to see the road every chance it gets. 16-inch Torque Thrusts accentuate the stance and carry 245/50/16 performance radials.A perennial favorite the '55 Chevy continues to make friends and this clean well-built and affordable 2-door Post makes a great choice for summer fun.
