Buick Skylark 1965 Description
1965 Buick Special Convertible. Same body as a skylark. All numbers matching with a Buick 300 cubic inch V8 with ST300 2 speed transmission with the switch pitch converter, that works. It has a CD player and power top and front seat belts only. All convertibles had factory bucket seats. The car is originally from Atlanta GA.It was bought in 2015 from an insurance auction from being vandalized. The top was cut, the seats were cut and the car was keyed. Because of that the car has a rebuilt salvage title, The car has NEVER been wrecked. The odometer shows 27K miles and at first i though it may have rolled over but after a thorough inspection of the car and how orgional it is, I believe it has only 27K miles on it. There is no rust on the brake lines or gas lines, every bolt under the car comes loose easily and there is no patch work in the floor pans. So I believe this car was well cared for its whole life. The under side of the car is rust free. I encourage you to come take a look at it in person if you are interested. It still has the factory owners manual in the glove box and the spare tire and jack setup in the trunk.
The car was completely re-painted in summer the 2015 by a professional body shop that cost $11,00, along with a new convertible top ($1500) and new carpet and seat covers and door pannels from PUI ($1000). The bumpers have been re-chromed using the correct tipple plating process, that cost me ($2000). The rear tail light housings and center section were also re-chromed ($1000)
*Update* The wheels are original Buick rallys that have never been re-chtomed. The tires are still like new. * The body had two small rust sports when it was bought, one on the lower passenger quarter where it wraps under and one the size of a quarter of the top of the wheel well on the drivers quarter panel, The original radio is in a box the trunk along with a second steering wheel because the one on car now is cracked in a few spots, along with some other original parts.*
While at the body shop, the engine and trans were gone through The engine ran great, no smoke or noises but had a terrible leak out of the rear main seal. The old rope seal was replaced with modern rubber. While I was replacing the rear main seal, I had to pull a main cap off and saw a stamping on the main bearings dated 2006. The engine got all new gaskets except head gaskets. Next I pulled down the transmission and did an inspection to see that it to was rebuilt already. So I just replaced some dried out seals and a new pan gasket.
It runs great and gets great gas mileage with a 2 bbl carb and now has an aftermarket aluminum radiator and never even gets close to 200 on hot summer days in traffic. I have driven the car all over the state of Ohio and to national car shows. Everyone always comments on how cool of a car it is.
In addition to the drive train it has had many numerous other things done to it like new brakes and cylinders, break hoses, coolant hoses, shocks (air shocks on the rear) swaybar bushings, ball joints and a duel master cylinder and a ton of other little things. All parts were either from NPD, YearOne or NAPA. NO CHINESE CRAP on this car.
It drives like a 1965 car would. Its like going back in time. The mufflers have a slight rumble to them but are not loud. My wife and I love driving it with the tunes up and people love it.
I'm only selling because I bought another car and will soon be out of space.
Any questions please ask, cashiers check only or paper money in person. Wire transfers also welcome. $500 deposit due at the end of the auction.
The car is for sale locally and I will remove if it sells.
