Buick Special 1936 Description
This is a great looking and driving 1936 Buick. The Buick was restored in 2000, engine was inspected, valve grin, installed 6 volt self energizing alternator so the battery always stay charged. Pertronuix electronic ignition, turn signals added and heater works well.
The body was stripped, primed and painted - see pictures- and the rubber body and window seals were replaced including the running board mats. The gril, window frames and some other items were re chromed. Diamond back radial tires were put on. The key works in the ignition door and trunk. A Hampton Coach interior kit was installed, still looks good, except a whole from the sun on the top of the rear seat. It cam be hid with a doily. Engine is quite, no exhaust leaks, has 30 lbs oil pressure and no smoking. Clutch is smooth and transmission shifts well.
This car is a McLaughlin Buick and is the same as the American model, except it has the high speed rear axle. This car cruises at 60-65 with a quite and smooth engine. The high speed rear axle is hard to come by.
This car was restored to a drive, not a show car. The paint has some patina and shows its age from 16 years, the tires will need replacing, but are still smooth. The only rust is a small spot inside driver rear door lower corner- can see in the picture. The grove box lock broke and the trunk handle. Every thing else seems to work. This is the first year of hydraulic brakes, the stop well and straight.
Just completed a 300 mile drive in December and had no problems. I drove in the cold and dark at times. Had good heat and dash lights worked. I like to drive my old cars, but I am downsizing my collection. This car is ready to enjoy, just had oil changed, shocks and gear oils filled. Shop manuals go with the car, restoration picture board and other old receipts. Draws attention whenever I drive it.
Road test and inspections are encouraged and phone calls are welcome.
